Hanami お花見

April 25th 2011

To me, as a Japanese, it is the tradition to enjoy the beauty of Cherry blossom every year. Cherry blossom is often used as a metaphor for “woman’s beauty”…in other words, the beautiful time is very short. Cherry blossom always reminds me of the poem by Fumiko Hayashi.

Life of flower is short
Women’s life is only lots of pain

花の命は短くて苦しきことのみ多かりき

It was 1940′s. Nowadays, the life of flower (woman) is longer and we can bloom anytime we want regardless of age!

Yesterday, I took my Ken to do his Karate training in the Japanese Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, NY.  http://www.bbg.org/discover/cherries/
